The Aspen Hope Center is a local non-profit agency that handles any mental health crisis an individual or family may be faced with. Though they specifically try to assist individuals who are depressed and potentially suicidal any crisis is handled with compassion and professionalism. The Aspen Hope Center has skilled clinicians who answer the HOPEline 24 hours a day, assess the needs of the caller and provide the necessary assistance or referrals. 

For all of us, the holidays can be especially hard.  This time of year has a way of bringing any loss or trauma we’ve experienced to the forefront.  In addition, financial stress, separation from extended family and fewer hours of daylight can all contribute to feeling down.   New moms can be particularly vulnerable and as mothers ourselves, we all know what a challenge it can be to keep up  our spirits while trying to balance life, self-care and care of our families. Loneliness tends to pool around holiday times and in the time after the holidays.

Each mom member of Aspen Moms For Moms has a unique opportunity to make a difference this holiday season! 

Each of us has experienced difficulties in our lives, and yet somehow found a way to hang on to hope.  This year we are sharing  hope with others in collaboration with the Aspen Hope Center.  One feature of depression is that people feel alone, so let's use the power of kindness to reach out and show community.

Here's how it works:

1.  Write or type a note to an unspecified  mom who might be going through a rough time.  Speak from your heart, and share some general information about a tough circumstance or challenge you've faced in your life and the means by which you found hope, motivation, and success in overcoming that experience.  Provide some words of encouragement and hope for the receiver of the note.  You may write more than one!

2.  Sign the card with only your first name.

3.  Put the note(s) in envelopes -- the Hope Center will ensure each note is right for the recipient. Your anonymity will be preserved.

4.  Mail your note to: Aspen Moms For Moms Hope Center Project, PO Box 4767, Aspen, CO 81612.  We will collect notes through January 31.  At that time, notes will be sent to the Aspen Hope Center and shared with those who may need some encouragement!
